Trey, his dad and I spent our entire day in Magic Kingdom, from opening to close. We had tremendous luck, never waiting more than thirty minutes for a ride. Plus we got to ride and see everything that we wanted to in the park. Despite the rain it was the best day already. This was our second of five days inside of Disney World.
On our Magic Kingdom day, Trey somehow got reservations to Cinderella's Royal Table, which is located inside of Cinderella's castle at Disney World in Orlando, FL. We got inside, took pictures with the princess and waited in the lobby with a bazillion other parties waiting to go up the spiral staircase to eat. The bells were rung and finally, Trey's name was called and we were led upstairs to the dining room.
We got the best seat in the room, a table for two right beside the window overlooking Cinderella's courtyard. You could even see Belle's castle from there! Our server was wonderful. A wand was given to me and a sword to Trey, which I didn't find odd because everyone got one. We were called Prince and Princess the entire time, and the Disney princesses were circling the room taking photos with everyone as they ate. After our appetizers (Grits with goat cheese, shrimp and arugula) and entrees (vegetable gnocchi), our table was cleared of all dishes. I started to become suspicious when Trey took off my promise ring and joked about having it re-sized again because my fingers are so tiny. After some bickering he gave it back to me, but it was then that our server removed all sugar, salt and pepper from the center of the table to the side. Then I KNEW something was up. No other server had done that for any of their guests. Trey kept glancing toward the dining room and tried to keep me in conversation so that I wouldn't look there as well.
Ten minutes later, a precession of servers and photographers rushed to our table, carrying two dessert dishes with fresh berries and a pastry that held a white chocolate shoe filled with chocolate mousse. "Dreams Do Come True" was written on the plate in chocolate. And then a glass slipper that was laying on a bed of rose petals was brought to our table. On it, our names, the date, and our "couple quote," "Always and Forever" had been engraved. I was dumbfounded at how fantastic it all was. The entire dining room had fallen silent to watch. Photos kept flashing and Trey rushed over and got on one knee to propose. He said my full name, that I remember. I was too much in shock to remember the details. I do know that I took the ring from the box and tried to put in on myself, to which many laughed. Trey said, "No, let me do that" and laughed. And we were engaged! Photo after photo was taken and each princess came to my table to take a photo and to see the ring. Celebratory "Champagne," which was really sparkling grape juice because the restaurant was non-alcoholic, was given to Trey and I to celebrate. We couldn't eat our specialty desserts. Engagement shock had set in. Our server took our fancy desserts to be boxed and we got congratulations from other guests in the room. Our server returned and asked if we wanted anything else to drink, on the house, so we each got a coffee and took it all in. Our glass slipper was boxed and the petals were used as a cushion for it. We also got two new champagne glasses to keep and just engaged buttons.
As we drank our coffee I realized just how much Trey had worked behind the scenes to pull all of this off. Reservations for the restaurant were booked no matter how many times we called. He must have told them what he wanted to do, to which Disney made special arrangements so that he could. I also had NO idea when he bought the ring. All day long he and his dad showed no sign of nervousness or abnormal excitement that gave it away. Trey also asked my dad for permission the Friday before we left for Disney. He had taken me to get a manicure and pedicure and told me that he had some errands to run and would be back to pick me up when I was done.
After we left the restaurant we had our photos taken in front of the castle and we got many congratulations from the people outside. The cast members knew because Trey's dad had told them as he waited for our dinner to end. I showed it off to many as we walked to the Beast's bridge at his castle to watch the fireworks display, "Celebrate America." The fireworks surrounded the entire park this time because of Independence Day. It was the perfect ending to our engagement.
He did it all right. My favorite place in the world, at an amazing restaurant, inside of a castle, with all the princesses that I know and love. And that is my engagement story. Always and forever.
