What Do You Like?
- Choose some that both you and your fiance can agree on.
- Play around. What's your favorite color? What colors go well with it?
- Be subtle. Ladies, I know some of you love pink, but do you really want pink tablecloths with pink flowers with pink chair covers for your wedding? If you do, more power to you and your fiance for agreeing to it to make you happy. But not everything has to have your colors. There is such a thing as too much.
Trey and I both love blue and gray. So our colors are dark blue, a deeper gray, white and silver accents. (Image credits from top left to bottom right: dorilucas.blogspot.com, momtastic.com, menswearhouse.com).
These are some common terms that inspire themes:
- Shabby Chic
No one is saying these are the only words that you can draw inspiration from. Perhaps you want a Disney or Doctor Who theme, or perhaps a Zen inspired one. It's completely up to you. Choose whatever excites you the most. It's your wedding!
You can even incorporate hints of what you love if you don't want an overriding theme. Because Trey is a musician and we share an interest in Disney and Doctor Who, we will be having elements of these things in our wedding such as a T.A.R.D.I.S. groom's cake and Disney princess hair cut-outs for the photo booth. Use subtle details like this to personalize your wedding.
Start Thinking About Decorations
Do you want every end chair to house flowers or candles? Perhaps every other chair?
Perhaps your venue doesn't have quite the look you want or you want to spice it up. Consider ribbons, lights, archways, rustic door frames, etc.
3. Aisle runner
Do you want an actual runner with script on it? Petals or glitter? Nothing at all?
These are definitely the most important part of decorating. Guests will be sitting at these
tables for hours to eat, rest their feet after dancing and to chat with other guests. They will be a huge focus point! Do you want candles, branches, lanterns, or vases? Large or small? Tall
2. Cake and gifts table
Where will guests put cards? In a box? A suitcase? A birdcage? Do you want candles and
flowers around the cake?
3. Head table (for just the bride and groom or the entire bridal party)
Do you want a love seat? Signs for the backs of your and your groom's chairs? Chairs across from the bride and groom so guests can visit?
Here are some ideas of the things I've described above that I have drawn inspiration from.
Look at Other Weddings for Inspiration
Most importantly, don't stress yourself out. You don't have to have extravagant decorations. Simplicity is beautiful too. Make planning fun by having a Pinterest inspiration night with a couple of close friends. Perhaps their ideas will inspire you!
